Hey everyone, I’m looking for some guidance on choosing my first precision bolt‑action rifle.
Right now I’m really interested in the Tikka T3x TAC A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor with the 24” barrel, but I’m open to other recommendations.
My goals and details:
- I want a setup capable of consistent accuracy out to 1,000–1,200 yards
- My total budget is around $5,000 including optics and accessories. Give or take.
- I’m not looking to buy something cheap and upgrade later — I’d rather start with a rifle I won’t outgrow
- I’m aiming for a reliable, accurate long‑range platform with good long‑term potential
I’ve also been hearing a lot about custom rifles. If anyone has experience with custom builds — pros, cons, cost differences, or whether they’re worth it for a first long‑range setup — I’d really appreciate more information.
If you have experience with the TAC A1 or similar rifles, or if you’d recommend something else in that range, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks
